Police Investigate March 31st Fatal Car Accident
San Leandro police investigators are seeking witnesses to a fatal car accident that occurred on March 31st at the intersection of E. 14th St. and West Juana Ave. that claimed the life of a 75 year old San Leandro resident.
On March 31st at 4:55pm, police, fire and paramedic personnel responded to 911 calls of a vehicle that struck a pedestrian in the crosswalk in San Leandro’s downtown business district. When they arrived, they found 75 year-old Helen Lallyof San Leandro suffering from serious injuries. Paramedics transported Ms. Lally to a local area hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries.
“We offer our condolences to Ms. Lally’s family and friends. This is truly a tragic loss,” said Lt. Robert McManus. “Anytime we lose a member of our San Leandro community, it has the potential to impact everyone.” he said.
Traffic investigators have interviewed the driver of the vehicle, who has been extremely cooperative with them during the investigation. At this time, police will only identify the driver is a 74 year old San Leandro woman, whose name is being withheld as they continue to investigate the cause of the tragic accident. Police have determined that neither alcohol nor drugs were a contributing factor to the accident. Once investigators determine the cause of the accident, they will evaluate whether or not criminal charges will be filed.
