UPDATE: AFD Assists with Body Recovery at Beluga Point

UDPATE: The Alaska State Troopers are conducting the investigation. The Anchorage Police Department did not respond to this incident as was initially stated.

ORIGINAL STORY: At 3:21 P.M., AFD Dispatch received a call transferred from the Alaska State Troopers reporting a person was spotted down on the shoreline by Beluga Point on Turnagin Arm. The original caller to 911 was unable to determine the condition of the person, and due to the location, the AFD Rope Rescue Team was dispatched. A total of five AFD units plus officers from APD, AST and Chugach State Park responded to the incident.

Crews were able to access the person and confirmed the individual was beyond resuscitation, and recovered the body.  All AFD units had left the scene by 5:07 P.M.

The investigation, identification and notification of next of kin will be made by law enforcement in conjunction with the State Medical Examiner Office.
