The following crimes are currently being investigated by Santa Clarita Sheriff’s Station detectives:
03/27/17   
Vehicle Burglary - 23800 Oakview Ln., Newhall.
Person(s) unknown entered the victim’s locked vehicle by unknown means and stole items from a black gear bag located in the rear cargo area of the vehicle. 
03/28/17
Grand Theft- 20900 Costa Brava, Newhall.
The victim received a call from an unknown person claiming to be an “IRS” agent, told the victim she owed $8,000, and payments need to be made in the form of an “Apple iTunes,” “Walmart,” and “Target” gift card.  The victim purchased the gift cards and called back providing the serial numbers.
Vehicle Burglary- 23700 Red Oak Ct., Newhall.
Person(s) unknown entered the victim’s locked vehicle by unknown means and stole an emergency roadside kit, backpack, black in color, and computer hard drive.
Commercial Burglary- 24800 Newhall Ave., Newhall
The suspects used a metal grinder to cut a metal cage enclosing a vending machine and gained access to the money contained inside.  An unknown amount of U.S. currency was stolen from the machine.  The incident was captured on video surveillance.

Vehicle Burglary - 24800 Newhall Ave., Newhall.
Person(s) unknown shattered the victim’s passenger side window and stole a grey lunchbox and black and grey jacket from atop the passenger seat.

Residential Burglary- 23700 Red Oak Ct., Newhall.
Person(s) unknown entered the victim’s residence through a master bedroom window and stole a handgun with two loaded magazines and $5,000 in U.S. silver coins.  
03/30/17
Commercial Burglary - 23800 Lyons Ave., Newhall
 Person(s) unknown forced entry into the business by shattering a glass door.  The cash register was located on the floor with its drawer open.  Nothing appeared to have been stolen.
04/01/17
Commercial Burglary - 22700 Lyons Ave., Newhall
Person(s) unknown forced entry into the business through a wooded door.  The location appeared to have been ransacked and a cash register containing $100 in U.S. Currency was stolen from atop a counter. The upstairs office door had been kicked in and the office ransacked. 
 04/01/17
Commercial Burglary - 22700 Lyons Ave., Newhall
The suspects forced entry into the business by prying open a door.  The suspect was observed prying open the cash register drawer.  Nothing was stolen from the location.  The incident was caught on video surveillance.
04/02/17
Residential Burglary - 21400 Grape Lily Cir., Newhall.
The suspect stole the victim’s bicycle from an open garage.  The suspect was located on board a Santa Clarita City bus and arrested for the indicated charge.   
04/02/17
Petty Theft-24500 Main St., Newhall
Person(s) unknown stole the victim’s bicycle (“Specialized” 16 speed, white frame, black and blue trim) from a bicycle rack at the location.
 
 
                                          ***Small Business Burglary Prevention***
Windows should have secure locks and burglar-resistant glass.  Consider installing metal grates on all your windows except display windows.  Remove all expensive items from window displays at night and make sure you can see easily into your business after closing.  Light the inside and outside of your business, especially around doors, windows, skylights, or other entry points.  Consider installing covers over exterior lights and power sources to deter tampering.  Check the parking lot for good lighting and unobstructed views.  Keep your cash register in plain view from the outside of your business, so it can be monitored by police during the day or at night.  Leave it open and empty after closing.  Make sure your safe is fireproof and securely anchored. Leave it open when it’s empty, use it to lock up valuables when you close.  Remember to change the combination when an employee who has had access to it leaves your business.   Before you invest in an alarm system, check with several companies and decide what level of security fits your needs. Learn how to use your system properly. Check the system daily, and run a test when closing.
