AFD Responds to Midnight Structure Fire on Lovejoy Drive

At 12:01 A.M., AFD Dispatch received a 911 call reporting smoke was coming from a vent of a two-story residential home on the 2700 block of Lovejoy Drive, and occupants of the house were evacuating the structure. Fire apparatus arrived on location less than five minutes later and reported smoke was coming from the attic. Eleven fire apparatus, command and support units responded to the fire.
The origin of the smoke was fire found to be spreading inside a wall on the second floor and into the ceiling. The fire was declared under control at 12:38 A.M. and most of the units were placed back in service. Two units remained on location continuing salvage and overhaul operations until 1:37 A.M. The cause of the fire is assessed to be electrical in origin. No injuries occurred and assistance from the Red Cross was not required.
