Johnston Co. Man Shot by Deputy in Texas Jail

March 25, 2017, Joses “Ricky” Rice Beck, 29, was shot by a Johnston County sheriff’s deputy in Tishomingo when Beck walked toward officers with a knife in his hand. The officers commanded Beck to drop the knife, but Beck refused. A deputy shot Beck two times when Beck got 4-to-5 feet from officers. Beck was taken to a Plano hospital. Today, Beck was released from the hospital and taken to the Collin County jail on a warrant for his arrest on numerous complaints – one count of burglary, one count of assault and battery, one count of aggravated assault and battery, and three counts of assault on a police officer. Officers were called to a Tishomingo apartment complex March 25 after Beck had assault a handicapped man and broke into a woman’s apartment. The Johnston County Sheriff requested OSBI investigate the officer-involved shooting as well as the complaints against Beck. OSBI will soon deliver a report on the officer-involved shooting to the district attorney. The DA will determine if the shooting was justified.
