Indianapolis, IN- Indiana State Police troopers are investigating the cause of a crash on the Indianapolis east side that has left two people in critical condition.

This afternoon, April 1st, at 3:00 p.m., troopers responded to a two vehicle personal injury crash on I-465 NB at the 43.6 mm. which is just north of I-70.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that Louise Traficanti, 43, of Illinois was operating a 2006 Honda Odyssey van NB on I-465 in the left lane at the 43.6 mm. For reasons unknown at this time a 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt, being operated by Stanton M. Bowie Jr, 28, of Fishers, traveling NB on I-465 become sideways in the path of the van. The van struck the sedan in the passenger side door where Rosie M. Amis, 14, of Indianapolis, was seated.

Troopers found both Bowie Jr. and Amis unresponsive when they arrived and Amis did not have a pulse. Trooper Corey Berfield utilized his Bolt for the Heart AED which advised no shock but to initiate CPR. Trooper Berfield along with two nurses that came upon the crash scene maintained CPR until relieved by responding emergency responders and medics.

Amis was transported to Methodist Hospital in critical condition. Bowie Jr. was transported to Eskenazi Hospital also in critical condition. Neither Traficanti nor her three passengers were transported for injuries.

Evidence located at the scene in the Chevrolet Cobalt and personal observations by investigating troopers indicated that alcoholic beverages may be a contributing factor in this crash. A blood draw warrant was requested and issued for Bowie Jr. The results are pending and Bowie Jr. has not been arrested.

Two Pitbull K-9’s that were located running loose at the scene of the crash were placed in their vehicle by Good Samaritans. When they attempted to get in their vehicle to leave the K-9’s became aggressive and would not let them into their vehicle. The Good Samaritans vehicle was towed to the Indianapolis State Police Post where Animal Control removed the K-9’s and transported them to the Indianapolis Animal Care Services. Investigators are trying to determine if the K-9’s were in the roadway prior to the crash.

This is an ongoing investigation and anyone with information regarding the crash is encouraged to contact Indiana State Police Sergeant Jeff Rader at (317) 899-8577.
