INCIDENT: Carjacking, Harm to an Elder Adult, Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, Evading

SUSPECT(S): Edward Tellez, 42 year old Victorville resident

VICTIM(S): Confidential; 82 year old female

SUMMARY: On March 31, 2017, deputies from the Victorville Police Department responded to a reported carjacking in a shopping center at Lorene Drive and 7th Street.

An 82 year old female had just parked her vehicle in front of a store at the location when the suspect, Edward Tellez, opened the driver’s door and pulled her out. The victim struggled with the suspect before he threw her to the ground and fled in her vehicle. The victim suffered lacerations and bruising and was treated for her injuries.

That evening deputies responded to the area of Palmdale Road and Amethyst Road, after a resident reported an unknown male, who appeared to be intoxicated, had parked in her driveway. Deputy Vasquez located the vehicle being driven in the area and attempted a traffic stop. The driver, later confirmed to be Tellez, failed to yield to Vasquez, leading deputies on an 11 mile pursuit. During the pursuit, Tellez failed to stop at several stop signs and red lights. Deputies deployed spike strips at US Highway 395 and Mojave Drive, which Tellez ran over but continued driving. The pursuit came to an end at Palmdale Road and Borrego Road, where Deputy Griffin successfully used a pursuit intervention technique (PIT maneuver.) Tellez was taken into custody and transported to a local hospital for issues related to being under the influence.

On April 2, 2017, Tellez was transported from the hospital to West Valley Detention Center. He was booked for carjacking, inflicting harm on an elderly adult, possession of a stolen vehicle, and evading a police officer. He is scheduled to make an appearance at Victorville Superior Court on April 4, 2017.
