Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Homicide detectives are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting death of a man that occurred on Sunday, April 2, 2017 at 12:41 A.M. in the 12700 block of South Avalon Boulevard, unincorporated Los Angeles.
 
Detectives learned Century Station deputies while on routine patrol heard gunshots at the location and responded.  As they arrived they saw two male Blacks running towards and entering a black Honda Civic.  The vehicle backed up and struck a Hispanic man and woman who were lying on the street near the center medium at the location then drove forward northbound on Avalon Boulevard.
 
Deputies followed the Honda and conducted a traffic stop near 124^th Street and Avalon Boulevard and detained the two occupants pending an assault with a deadly weapon investigation.
 
Deputies subsequently learned the Hispanic man struck by the vehicle was shot in the chest at the location prior to being struck.  The Hispanic woman sustained abrasions to her head and body.  Both were transported to a local hospital where the man was pronounced dead and the woman was treated for her injuries.
 
The two male Black occupants of the Honda Civic were transported to Century Station to be interviewed by Homicide detectives.  It is still undetermined if they had a role in the shooting of the victim.
 
Detectives also learned that a second suspect vehicle, a white Nissan Sentra, was seen leaving the scene at the time the shooting occurred.
 
The motive for the shooting is unknown.
