A 6-year-old boy is found in possession of a gun at school, parents arrested for child endangerment

DATE/TIME: March 22, 2017

INCIDENT: Parents Arrested for Child Endangerment

LOCATION: Los Amigos Elementary School

SUSPECT: Charles Neazer 30-year-old male from Rancho Cucamonga

SUMMARY:

On March 10, 2017, deputies from the Rancho Cucamonga Police Department, responded to a residence regarding a grandmother who located a firearm in her 6-year-old grandson's backpack. Deputies discovered the juvenile took possession of the handgun from another student at Los Amigos Elementary School earlier in the day. During the preliminary investigation, deputies were unable to identify the other student involved. The juvenile could not provide deputies with the other child’s name or any identifying information to locate the other child involved. Deputies took possession of the firearm and forwarded the investigation to the School Resource Officer (SRO) assigned to Los Amigos Elementary School. During this preliminary investigation, Los Amigos Elementary School was out of school on spring break. Investigators believed pursuing the investigation while school was out of session could potentially compromise the investigation.

When Los Amigos Elementary School returned from spring break, SRO Deputy DelRio used school resources to identify the child who initially brought the firearm to school. DelRio determined the child acquired the firearm from his parents safe at their home. The child's parents were identified as Charles Neazer and Nikki Horseman.

Deputy DelRio served a search warrant at Neazer and Horseman’s residence. DelRio was able to locate Neazer’s safe during the search warrant, which was found to have additional firearms. Child Family Services assisted and took custody of all four children living in the home. Deputy DelRio identified that the Neazer’s safe was accessible to his children, however, Neazer was unaware any of this children had accessed the contents of the safe. On Wednesday, March 22, 2017, Neazer was arrested for child endangerment and booked into the West Valley Detention Center.
