Madison County EMA tested the Alert and Notification systems during the severe weather tornado drill today

The Madison County Emergency Management & Office of Homeland Security successfully tested our warning systems used to alert residents when severe weather or other emergency situations threaten Madison County.  Today's tornado drill was especially important for EMA personnel because this was our first activation from our new emergency operations center.  EMA staffed the EOC with representatives from our Warning Division, Amateur Radio (StormNet Spotters), Public Information, EOC Manager and Executive Staff.  In addition, our county 911 center also participated in the drill.  Madison County was was able to test:

1.  UHF Warning Radio System 453.825 MHz
2.  Amateur Radio Repeater System 146.820 MHz
3.  Nixle Alert system (text MadisonCOEMA to 888-777 to sign up)
4.  Social Media outlets (facebook, twitter and Instagram)
5.  VHF Fire Dispatch 155.070 MHz
6.  Madison County Public Safety Radio System 800 MHz
7.  State SAFE-T radio system 800 MHz

EMA had 42 trained amateur radio spotters check in today as available during the two drills.  These 42 spotters are specially trained amateur radio operators who go out during times of severe weather to provide observations to EMA which are relayed to the National Weather Service.   EMA is one of the most active counties with trained weather spotters in the State of Indiana.

Madison County EMA encouraged all citizens to test their personal preparedness plan at home, work and school.  If this warning had been real, would you know where to go to seek shelter?

This week, follow Madison County EMA and Mr. B. Ready on social media for helpful preparedness tips.  In addition, Mr. B Ready is running a daily contest to educate the public on severe weather and the daily winner will receive an All Hazard Alert Radio.  To participate in the daily contest, follow Mr B. Ready on facebook.
