INCIDENT: Fatal Traffic Collision

LOCATION: Air Expressway & Phantom West, Victorville

DRIVER #1: 25-year-old Barstow resident

DRIVER #2: 30-year-old Victorville resident

PASSENGER IN VEHICLE #2: 28-year-old Victorville resident

SUMMARY:
On March 18, 2017, at approximately 2:12 p.m., Victorville deputies were dispatched to a report of a major traffic collision involving two vehicles that occurred in the area of Air Expressway and Phantom West in the City of Victorville.

A white Ford Explorer, driven by Driver #1, was traveling westbound on Air Expressway, approaching the intersection with Phantom West. A silver Ford Mustang, driven by Driver #2, was traveling southbound on Phantom West, approaching the intersection with Air Expressway. Initial information indicates Driver #1 may have failed to stop for the red traffic signal and collided with Driver #2 at the intersection. Driver #1 was transported to St Mary’s Hospital for minor injuries, and the Passenger in Vehicle #2 was transported to Loma Linda University Medical Center for major injuries. Driver #2 sustained fatal injuries, as a result from the collision, and was pronounced deceased at the scene by San Bernardino County Fire Department paramedics.

Air Expressway was closed to traffic in both directions in the area of the collision until approximately 9:00 p.m. for the investigation. This is an ongoing investigation by the Victorville Station Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT).
