Most are aware that because of the amount of rain that we have received along with the significant snowpack, Corcoran is at risk of flooding. Although there is a tremendous effort underway to raise levees around Corcoran, as the snowpack melts the threat of flooding still exists. Many experts continue to monitor runoff and information will be shared as it is available. The Cross Creek Flood Control District is working diligently with the assistance of many other entities to raise approximately 14 miles of levee to an elevation of 192 feet above sea level.
In preparation for potential flooding, Corcoran Police Department is in the process of putting plans in place to be certain that we maintain 9-1-1 capabilities and have resources available to coordinate evacuation efforts. We have also begun taking steps to ensure that our most vulnerable population is prepared.
We will be putting out Nixle alerts as information is updated and available. In the meantime there are some things that can be done now to protect your family and homes:

Purchase Flood Insurance — You must have flood insurance for 30 days before it takes effect.

Safeguard Your Possessions — Keep a copy of your insurance policies and a list of all household items in a waterproof container.

Develop a Family Emergency Plan — Create an emergency preparedness kit and household evacuation plan, including a place to meet in case of a quick evacuation.
