Trooper A.J. Smith is Laterally Promoted to Detective

On February 26, 2017, State Police Superintendent Doug Carter announced the lateral promotion of Trooper A.J. Smith to the rank of Trooper Detective in the Criminal Investigations Division (CID) where he will serve as District Investigative Officer. Smith was selected after competing in a stringent written and oral interview process. In this new capacity, Smith will work mostly criminal investigations and assist road troopers, other detectives, and local agencies in ongoing investigations.

Smith graduated from the Indiana State Police Academy in 2007. He was assigned to the Lafayette Post and patrolled mostly Carroll, Tippecanoe, Clinton and White Counties. While working the road, he was a Field Training Officer, a member of the Tactical Intervention Team (T.I.P.).worked background investigations on potential troopers and civilian employees and was temporarily assigned to the CID for 90 days in 2016.

Trooper Detective A.J. Smith has been a resident of Carroll County all his life and now lives there with his family.
