New Troopers Get Their Cars

Lafayette-District #14's four new troopers received their cars on February 14, 2017 and have started solo patrols in their respective areas. They were four of fifty-five new troopers who reported to their districts of assignment following graduation from the 76th Indiana State Police Recruit Academy.

The probationary troopers completed 22 weeks of intense training at the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy in Plainfield. During the training period, the recruits received in excess of 950 hours of law enforcement training which included criminal law, emergency vehicle operations, traffic law as well as training in other facets of law enforcement including criminal investigation, crash investigation, self-defense, first responder and other general law enforcement related areas of instruction.

After graduation, they continued their education with 15 weeks of riding with experience troopers to learn what is expected of them when they receive their new cars. They rode with Field Training Officers (FTO's) honing the skills learned in the academy and putting that training to use while patrolling. on their own.
