State of Emergency and Travel Ban Update
The City of Oneonta State of Emergency and ban on all non-emergency vehicle travel will remain in effect through Tuesday night and into Wednesday morning. An announcement regarding the continuation of the travel ban will be made on Wednesday at 9:00am. All non-emergency vehicle travel in the City of Oneonta is prohibited until notified otherwise. This ban will be strictly enforced by the Oneonta Police Department.
Oneonta Mayor Gary Herzig states, "At this time, our primary concern is the safety of all residents of the City of Oneonta. City crews have worked continuously in an attempt to keep up with the rapid accumulation of falling snow throughout the day on Tuesday. As all streets have not been cleared of snow, it is important that vehicles remain off all City roads until the travel ban is lifted. People traveling for emergency purposes should look carefully for pedestrians walking in the roadways. We must all work together to keep everyone safe throughout this historic storm. I want to thank the members of our DPW road crews, police, and fire departments for their continuing hard work and dedication to the safety of the people of this City. Everyone else should stay home." The mayor also reminds all that "If you have a gas heating system with a low level vent, please make sure that it is not buried under the snow as this can cause an unsafe condition in your home. Exercise Caution and Keep Safe."
