STORM ALERT
South Brunswick Office of Emergency Management Director Chief of Police Raymond Hayducka and Township Manager Bernard Hvozdovic are advising that the Township is preparing for a major winter storm on Tuesday. The storm is expected to bring over 12 inches of blowing drifting snow. Travel Tuesday will be extremely hazardous and many business, schools, and activities have been cancelled. See the list below for closings. We are advising residents to stay indoors and off the roads tomorrow. The anticipated high winds may cause trees to fall and power outages. If residents experience power outages they should call PSE&G at 1-800-436-PSEG.

Please do not park your vehicle on any Township roads starting tonight at 8pm. Township ordinance prohibits vehicles parking on roadways during a snowstorm.

South Brunswick Emergency Operations Center will be open and monitoring all the changing conditions. We will provide updates throughout the day on the storm’s impact on our community. Residents can expect updates on South Brunswick Nixle as well as our Twitter account @SoBrunswickPD.

SOUTH BRUNSWICK FORECAST -
Bracing ourselves for a powerful March Nor'easter later on tonight into tomorrow. Precipitation should arrive as snow and continue as such for the pre-dawn hours. However, a little after daybreak, warmer air will try to intrude inland, resulting in the rain/snow line becoming precariously close. Regardless, think if and when this warming occurs, it would be in the form of heavy sleet during the morning hours. Regardless, with 1.5-3"/hr rates possible with the snow, holding onto the 12-18" mark, though obviously sleet will keep totals on the lower end. Come midday, the heavy snow and/or sleet will end, but back-end light snow should hold steady until the late afternoon. Blowing and drifting snow will be possible during the early AM hours thanks to strong sustained winds. Even after the system departs, a few flurries will be possible overnight.

START TIME: Tonight 10PM-Midnight    END TIME: Tuesday 2PM-5PM
DURATION OF PRECIP: 11-16 hours        TOTAL: 12" - 18"
INTENSITY: Heavy
COMMENTS:
- 1.5" - 3" per hour snowfall rates are likely
- Heavy sleet will become a concern after daybreak as warmer air tries to push in
- Near blizzard conditions expected

POWER OUTAGES
Public Service Electric and Gas Company (PSE&G), New Jersey's largest electric and gas utility, is preparing for the approaching storm system that is predicted to bring heavy snow and strong winds to the Northeast on Tuesday.

"The amount of snow and high winds associated with this storm may bring down trees and power lines," said John Latka, senior vice president of electric and gas operations for PSE&G.  "We take every storm with the potential for outages seriously, and have additional personnel scheduled and on standby, with auxiliary equipment at the ready."

PSE&G urges its customers to be cautious during and after the storm:
Downed wires should always be considered "live." Do not approach or drive over a downed line and do not touch anything that it might be in contact with. To prevent carbon monoxide poisoning, do not run any gasoline powered engine, including generators and snowblowers, in a garage or any other enclosed space.

Customers should report downed wires or power outages by calling PSE&G's Customer Service line at 1-800-436-PSEG.  Also, customers can report outages at www.pseg.com or by texting "OUT" to 4PSEG (47734). The utility's mobile-friendly website includes an "Outage Map" that is updated every 15 minutes and displays the location and status of power outages in PSE&G's service area.
