Advisory

Snow Friday Morning, under 2 inches expected. Telemarketing Fraud Prevention Forum MONDAY March 13, 2017

Weather Alert - Snow Friday Morning

We are expecting snow to be falling for the Friday morning commute. This event starts between 4am and 7am as rain or a rain/snow mix. It is tough to determine how long it rains, a rough approximation is 30 to 90 minutes. We'll go over to steady snow the rest of the morning and there are more indications that snow is going to become moderate to even heavy. Most accumulation will be on grasses, and any accumulation on pavements is lower and there will be difficulty accumulating until snow gets heavy. Total accumulations less than 2 inches.

The snow ends by midday. A second threat to watch for in the evening are scattered snow showers. This is just like last Friday and the later a snow shower falls, the better chance for pavement cover because temps fall in the evening (into the 20s).

Telemarketing Fraud Prevention Forum
MONDAY March 13, 2017
Assemblyman Andrew Zwicker, South Brunswick Police to Host Telemarketing Fraud Prevention Forum.

Assemblyman Andrew Zwicker and the South Brunswick Police Department will host a telemarketing fraud prevention forum Monday night to inform the public about common scams. There will also be a member of the NJ Office of the Attorney General, Division of Consumer Affairs presenting ways to safeguard against telemarketing fraud.

“From calls claiming to be from the IRS to sweepstakes prizes, perpetrators of telemarketing fraud can employ coercive and threatening tactics and a sense of urgency that can make it difficult for residents to recognize that they are being victimized,” said Zwicker (D-Hunterdon/Mercer/Middlesex/Somerset). “While there are legal recourses in place, prevention and education are still paramount to protecting oneself from these fraudulent schemes.”

“The greatest defense against telemarketing fraud is awareness and education. This forum will help all residents be better prepared,” said South Brunswick Police Chief Raymond Hayducka. Since the start of the year police have taken 20 fraud reports in the Township, several involving telemarketers.
The forum will serve specifically to raise awareness of the dangers of telemarketing fraud. Due to the rapid rise in targeted scams throughout New Jersey, the goal of the event is to equip attendees with an accurate means of preventing and protecting themselves against fraud

The forum will be held on Monday, March 13 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the South Brunswick Council Chambers located in the Municipal Building at 540 Ridge Road, Monmouth Junction, NJ 08852. The event is free and open to the public.
