AFD on Location of an Apartment Complex Fire - 1000 Block of M Street - Fire Under Control

At 3:53 A.M., AFD Dispatch received several 911 calls reporting the front side of an apartment complex on the 1000 block of M Street was on fire, multiple occupants were still inside their apartments and several were trapped by fire. Units arrived on location five minutes later and due to the high life safety concerns requested a Second Alarm fire response plus four additional ambulances. A total of twenty two fire apparatus, command, support and additional ambulances responded to the location.
Fire crews began an aggressive fire attack while conducting a primary search of the apartment complex for any possible victims. The fire was declared under control by 4:05 A.M. Most of the crews have been placed in service. Six fire apparatus and command elements remain on location conducting salvage and overhaul operations.
Several occupants reported exposure to products of combustion and were assessed by paramedics but did not require transport to local hospitals at this time. The Red Cross was requested to help assist up to six displaced occupants. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
