Possible threat at West High School has been disproven – school is safe

On Tuesday, March 7, 2017, a 15-year-old West High School student took a selfie with the West High building in the background, added a gun emoji, and wrote the words “don’t come to school tomorrow” on the picture.  The student shared this photo with a few friends on Snap Chat who then shared it with several others.

School officials, the offending student, and the student’s parents have all been contacted by APD School Resource Officers.  Initial indications are that the intention of the student was to share this photo with friends and not to actually threaten anyone or have it shown to anyone else.  It has been determined there is no threat to students or faculty and school is safe to attend.

This incident is under investigation; it has not yet been determined whether or not any laws were broken and/or if any charges will be filed.  West High School was not put into lock-down, stay-put, or any other mode as a result of this incident.  Classes operated normally today.
