Date: 02/27/2017 Type of Case: Theft / Sale of Stolen Goods On Craigslist Location: Wal-Mart / Clinton Area Investigating Officer(s): Deputy Nick Hall, Detective Mike Strader, Wal-Mart Loss Prevention Assisting Officer(s): Deputy Bob Roberts Details: A theft of security cameras from the Wal-Mart Store in Clinton on the 24th of February led to an investigation into the sale of the same stolen cameras on Craigslist in the Clinton area. A meeting was set up between the sellers and potential buyer, once it was confirmed that the seller was on scene, Police intervened and the cameras were identified and two persons were taken into custody. Johnathan Thomas (30) of Clinton and Karli Emery (25) of Clinton were both arrested at the Bureau of Motor Vehicle parking lot in Clinton on charges of Possession of Stolen Property. Both Thomas and Emery were transported to the Vermillion County Jail and booked on the same charges. Both have since bonded out after posting $10,000.00 bond. The investigation is still ongoing and paperwork has been forwarded to the Vermillion County Prosecutors Office for review. *Under the Law, criminal charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. **Actual filing of charges for the state is done by the Prosecutor after review of the case information and charges may be added, changed or removed.
