Advisory

Winter storm watch now in effect from Saturday afternoon through Monday afternoon. Low snow levels possible for northern Sierras.

A cool Pacific weather system will bring a return of precipitation to the region this weekend into Monday, with fairly low snow levels. Periods of heavy snow will be possible in the mountains, the heaviest Saturday night into Sunday. This could along with gusty winds bring periods of whiteout conditions. Several feet of snowfall accumulation will be possible above around 5000 feet elevation. Snow levels will lower to around 1500 feet in the northern mountains and around 3000 feet in the northern Sierra.
Travel delays with chain controls and slick roads. Poor visibility due to snow and gusty winds will make travel hazardous.
A Winter Storm Watch means there is a potential for significant snow, sleet, or ice accumulations that may impact travel. Continue to monitor the latest forecasts.
