Empire, CA - On 3/1/2017 at approximately 11:23 PM, deputies were dispatched to Oregon Park for the report of an assault by several unknown suspects. The suspects fled the scene before deputies arrived. Deputies made contact with two victims who had been robbed by three male suspects and a female suspect.
At approximately 11:44 PM, deputies and emergency medical personnel were dispatched to the 5200 block of Campos Place in Empire for the report of a home invasion. The initial 911 call indicated that a male had been shot.
When deputies arrived they found an adult male deceased inside the home and a male juvenile being detained by the home owner.
Homicide detectives responded to the scene and found that the adult male suspect was shot and killed by the home owner during a struggle inside the residence. A second suspect, 15 years old, was arrested at the scene and booked into Juvenile Hall for homicide, home invasion, robbery and a prior outstanding warrant of arrest.
The identity of the deceased suspect is being withheld pending notification of his family. The identity of the juvenile is being withheld because of his age.
Investigators believe that the two crimes are connected and that this was not a random act of violence. The outstanding male and female suspect were seen leaving the scene immediately after the shooting.
