INCIDENT: Felon in Possession of a Firearm / Evading a Peace Officer

LOCATION: Bear Valley Road

SUSPECT(S): Bryan Saldana, age 40 a resident of Colorado
Jason Lopez, age 45 a resident of Colorado

SUMMARY: On February 27, 2017, Deputy O. Reyes, with the Victorville Police Department, observed a vehicle that was not displaying front and rear license plates, in violation of California Vehicle Code 5200(A). Reyes initiated a traffic stop on Bear Valley Road at the intersection of Cottonwood Avenue.

The driver of the 2005 Infiniti, later identified as Bryan Saldana, accelerated away from Deputy Reyes, failing to yield to the activated red lights and siren of Reyes’ marked patrol vehicle. Saldana continued to evade Reyes for approximately four miles. During the pursuit Saldana drove at speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour, running two red lights along Bear Valley Road and swerving into oncoming traffic lanes. Saldana attempted to turn southbound onto Peach Avenue and lost control of the Infiniti, crashing into a fence on a residential property. Saldana, a male passenger, identified as Jason Lopez, and an unidentified female passenger all exited the vehicle and ran from the scene. After a short foot pursuit, Saldana and Lopez were captured and detained. The female passenger was not located and is still outstanding.

A search of the suspect vehicle was conducted. Inside the vehicle deputies located two loaded firearms and several rounds of ammunition. Both Saldana and Lopez were found to be convicted felons, prohibiting them from being in possession of a firearm.

Both men were arrested and booked at High Desert Detention Center. Saldana was booked for being a felon in possession of a firearm and evading a peace officer. Lopez was booked for being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Additional deputies from Victorville Police Department, Hesperia Police Department, Apple Valley Police Department and the Victor Valley Station assisted Reyes on the call.
