A Bullhead City resident leads deputies on a high-speed pursuit

DATE/TIME: February 22, 2017 2:52 AM

INCIDENT: Felony Evading a Peace Officer. Resist Officer with Force, Possession of a Stolen Vehicle

LOCATION: Various locations within the City of Needles from N. K Street to US 95 south of Five Mile Road

SUSPECT: Anthony Julian Rodriguez, 29 years old, resident of Bullhead City, AZ

SUMMARY:
On Wednesday, February 22, 2017, personnel from the San Bernardino County Sheriff/Needles Police were requested to assist in the pursuit of a stolen vehicle that was heading south into Needles from Arizona on AZ Highway 95. Fort Mohave Tribal Police had taken over a pursuit that was initiated in Bullhead City and now reached Needles. Needles units took over the pursuit of the stolen 2002 Mercury SUV and followed it through the city of Needles and east onto Interstate 40. The vehicle drove at speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour and failed to obey traffic devices or posted stop signs. During the pursuit, the suspect vehicle left the roadway and rolled over. Deputies were then able to take the driver, identified as Anthony Rodriguez, into custody. Once in the Needles Jail, Rodriguez resisted deputies resulting in an additional charge of resisting an officer with force.

In addition to the new charges, Rodriguez also had a felony no bail warrant for possession of explosives out of Ventura County. Rodriguez is currently on felony PRCS Probation out of Ventura for weapons charges.

As part of Governor Jerry Brown's Realignment Plan, or Assembly Bill 109, to comply with a U.S. Supreme Court Decision requiring the state to lower its prison population; offenders with non-violent, non-sexual and non-serious convictions will serve reduced sentences in county jails and be placed on local supervision through county Probation.
