A man crashes into an Edison pole while driving under the influence with his infant

INCIDENT: CVC 23152 - Driving Under the Influence of Drugs
LOCATION: Pacific St / Del Rosa Dr, Highland
SUSPECT(S): Frank Avilez, 39 years old, San Bernardino
SUMMARY: On Thursday, February 23, 2017, at approximately 2:23 a.m., deputies from the Highland Police Station responded to a report of a traffic collision. A witness in the area observed a vehicle crash into an Edison pole. The driver of the vehicle, Frank Avilez, was found walking north on Del Rosa Dr with his infant. During the investigation, deputies observed signs and symptoms of Avilez being under the influence of a controlled substance. Avilez was subsequently arrested for CVC 23152(f) - Driving Under the Influence of a Drug. Deputies determined the infant was not strapped into a child safety seat at the time of the collision. Avilez and the infant were transported to a local hospital for observation.
Avilez will be booked into Central Detention Center in San Bernardino pending his release from the hospital.
