Evening Update on Don Pedro Reservoir, Tuolumne River, and San Joaquin River
Evening Update on Don Pedro Reservoir, Tuolumne River, and San Joaquin River
Stanislaus County – A single Controlled Spillway Gate remains in operation after being opened at 3 p.m. Monday. Current weather forecasts and inflows have Turlock Irrigation District (TID) maintaining releases to the Tuolumne River at approximately 16,000 cubic feet per second (cfs) although forecasted precipitation will affect future Reservoir operations.
TID made a request to the United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) for a deviation to maintain releases of approximately 16,000 cfs until Don Pedro Reservoir reaches 815 feet. Based on current forecasts, flows would remain at that level for approximately 9 to 10 days if the deviation is granted. The request was made create space in Don Pedro Reservoir to accommodate future inflow.
TID and MID began de-energizing power lines along the Tuolumne River channel on Monday. As River flows stabilized, Both TID and MID began re-inspecting the areas that had seen the increased water releases to determine if any locations could have their power restored. This re-inspection process will continue in the next few days. Power will only be restored to locations that are deemed safe. TID and MID will continue to monitor and re-evaluate power restoration timelines based on current and forecasted River levels.
The San Joaquin River is still a concern as water levels are expected to rise in the Newman and Vernalis area over the next few days. Deputies continue to patrol the rivers, levees, and all affected areas impacted by the flooding.
