MAN PLEADS GUILT TO SHOOTING AT PASADENA POLICE OFFICER

PASADENA, CA – On Friday, April 8, 2016 at approximately 9:15 AM, Officers Elhosseiny and Sailor attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle occupied by three individuals. The driver initially failed to comply, then brought the car to an abrupt stop in the area of Adena Street and Los Robles Avenue. The front passenger, later identified as Francisco Flores, quickly exited the vehicle and ran. Officer Elhosseiny exited the marked police vehicle and chased suspect Flores as he ran. While running, suspect Flores looked back at Officer Elhosseiny, pointed a gun at the officer and fired three arounds, fortunately missing Officer Elhosseiny. Officer Elhosseiny returned fire and struck suspect Flores once ending the foot chase. Flores was transported to a local hospital and eventually recovered from his injury.

Pursuant to our Department’s policy for Officer Involved Shootings (OIS), the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Homicide/OIS Bureau responded and conducted the criminal investigation. LASD Detectives Duncan and Valento were the lead investigators. At the conclusion of the lengthy investigation, the case was presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office who filed several charges, including attempted murder of a police officer. Suspect Flores, who was out on bond for a criminal charge of possession of a firearm (January 29, 2016) at the time of this assault, was a local gang member.

On February 21, 2017, Francisco Flores (Hispanic male, 23 years of age) plead guilty to the following charges:

PC245(d)(2) – Assault on a Peace Officer with a firearm.
PC 12022.53(c)- Discharge of a firearm in commission of a felony.
PC 11370.1- Possession of methamphetamine while armed with a handgun and gang allegations.

Francisco Flores will be sentenced to 35 years on March 17, 2017.
