A man commits suicide after he held his roommate against his will and assaulted him for hours

SUSPECT: 44-year-old male – Name withheld pending family notification
VICTIM: 72-year-old male
SUMMARY:
On February 21, 2017, deputies from the Victorville Police Department were dispatched to a reported attempted suicide in the 16000 block of White Mountain Place.
When deputies arrived at the location they discovered a 44-year-old male had hung himself inside the residence and was unresponsive. The man was unable to be revived and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
During the investigation deputies learned that prior to the man hanging himself he had been holding his 72-year-old roommate against his will. The suspect secured the victim to a chair using duct tape and physically assaulted him over a period of several hours. After the suspect hanged himself the victim was able to free himself from the chair and get to a neighbor’s house to call law enforcement. The victim suffered bruising and pain as a result of the incident but refused medical treatment.
The identity of the suspect/deceased is being withheld, pending notification of next of kin.
