Program Commemorates Black History Month

Kennesaw, Ga. (February 25, 2017) – The City of Kennesaw is presenting a Black History Month program titled "A Moment in Black History" on Sunday, February 26 from 4 – 6 pm at the Southern Museum, 2829 Cherokee Street in Kennesaw.

The event is free and open to all. The theme is “I Am... because We Are.” The program features speakers, a presentation of moments in black history, interpretive dance, spoken word, and performers.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to view the Southern Museum’s commemorative poster exhibition “A Place for All People: Introducing the National Museum of African American History and Culture.” Organized by the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service (SITES) in collaboration with the National Museum of African American History and Culture, “A Place for All People” is on display in the Cobb Energy Gallery during the month of February. It highlights key artifacts that tell the rich and diverse story of the African American experience.

"Black History Month is a time to reflect on the sacrifices and contributions of great pioneers and freedom fighters," said Kennesaw Council member Yvette Daniel. "Programs like this inclusively engage residents and build a more equitable community that supports growth and forms strong bonds."
