Advisory

A Hesperia man is arrested for evading and kidnapping after leading deputies on a pursuit in a stolen vehicle

DATE/TIME: February 20, 2017 / 12:25 p.m.

INCIDENT: Kidnapping / Possession of a Stolen Vehicle / Evading a Peace Officer

LOCATION: 7th Street and La Paz Drive

SUSPECT: Seth Fontaine, 21-year-old Hesperia resident

SUMMARY:
On February 20, 2017, Deputy Candace Sanchez was on patrol when she observed a vehicle that matched the description of a vehicle recently reported stolen out of Hesperia.

The vehicle, occupied by the male driver and two female passengers, was leaving a convenience store at 7th Street and La Paz Drive when Sanchez positioned herself behind the Honda Civic to conduct a records check. It was at that time that the driver of the Honda, Seth Fontaine, accelerated to get away from Sanchez. Fontaine continued driving at a high rate of speed failing to stop for a red light, and eventually running over two signs posted at the dead end of Del Norte Drive. Fontaine fled from the vehicle at Del Norte leading Sanchez on a short foot pursuit before she located him hiding inside of an ice machine at a utility yard. The two female passengers were detained at the vehicle by assisting deputies.

Upon further investigation, it was discovered the vehicle had been stolen and that one of the female passengers had asked Fontaine to let her out of the vehicle several times during the pursuit and he refused to do so.

Fontaine was arrested and booked at High Desert Detention Center for kidnapping, possession of a stolen vehicle, and evading a peace officer. He is scheduled to appear in Victorville Superior Court on February 22, 2017.
