Vehicles swept away by rapid flood waters at Pebble Beach Dr. and Hughes Rd, deputies, aviation and fire respond

LOCATION: Pebble Beach Dr./Hughes Road, Victorville
VICTIM 1: Jerry Parker, age 46 of Victorville
VICTIM 2: Michael Douglas Williams, age 41 of Victorville (Deceased)
SUMMARY:
On Friday, February 17, 2017, at 5:55 p.m., Victorville deputies were dispatched to the area of Pebble Beach Drive and Hughes Road following the report that rapid flood waters had swept vehicles away from the roadway. Victorville Sheriff's deputies, the Sheriff's Dive Team and San Bernardino County Fire personnel responded to the location. Upon arrival, the victim, later identified as Jerry Parker, was observed sitting on the roof of his vehicle as water swept around it. Sheriff's patrol helicopter, 40 King 3, crewed by Deputies Doug Brimmer, Chris Mejia and Detective Mark Rios, responded and assisted ground personnel. The helicopter was able to hover over the vehicle while Deputy Mejia and Detective Rios grabbed Parker and pulled him into the helicopter safely. Mr. Parker did not sustain any injuries. A second victim, later identified as Michael Williams was inside an almost completely submerged vehicle. Emergency personnel from the Sheriff's Dive Team and Swift Water Rescue Team from San Bernardino County Fire attempted to rescue Mr. Williams from his vehicle. Mr. Williams was pronounced deceased at the scene.
