INCIDENT: Minor Injury Traffic Collision

LOCATION: Palmdale Road x Amethyst Road

SUMMARY:
On February 14, 2017, at approximately 6:30 p.m., Sheriff’s dispatch received information that the traffic signals and nearby street lights were not functioning near the intersection of Palmdale Road and Amethyst Road. Cal-Trans responded to the intersection and placed stop signs for traffic control while the lights at the intersection were repaired.

At about 9:01 p.m., a San Bernardino County Deputy driving a marked Ford Explorer arrived at the intersection and stopped north bound at the stop sign. James Boross of Victorville was also stopped at a stop sign on the opposite side of the intersection from the deputy. The deputy started across the intersection and was struck by a Barbara Stewart who was driving west on Palmdale Road. The collision caused the deputy’s vehicle to spun and strike Boross’ vehicle.

The Region 2 Major Accident Investigation Team responded to the location to conduct the investigation. Witnesses at the scene informed deputies that the vehicle driven by Stewart failed to stop at the stop sign prior to the collision.

San Bernardino County fire personnel also responded, the deputy was transported to a local area hospital where he was treated and later released. The other two drivers, Barbara Stewart and James Boross did not require medical attention.
