*Update* #LASD Homicide Assisting Alhambra PD with a Death Investigation, 1800blk W. Garvey Av, Alhambra

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau detectives are assisting Alhambra Police Department and continuing their investigation into the death of a woman. The incident occurred Wednesday, February 15, 2017, at approximately 12:42 p.m., on the 1800 block of West Garvey Avenue, Alhambra.

Detectives have learned that Alhambra Police Department personnel received a 9-1-1 call of a woman unresponsive at the residence. When officers arrived, they saw a female adult laying on the ground outside her residence unresponsive.

Victim Moon Cheung, female Asian 78 years-old, sustained blunt force trauma to the upper torso and was pronounce dead at the scene.

Alhambra Police Officers were told that a male Hispanic adult knocked on the victim’s door, where a family member answered. The man showed the family member that the victim was laying on the ground. When the family member exited the residence to assist the victim, the suspect entered the residence, shut the door, and locked it. The family member called 9-1-1, and requested assistance.

When officers arrived, they entered the residence and conducted a search for the suspect. The suspect was not located within the residence.  

A few hours later, Alhambra Police Department personnel received a call regarding a suspicious person in a shed, a short distance from the victim’s residence. The suspect, who matched the description of the suspect they were looking for, was located and detained. Officers found the suspect was in possession of an item belonging to the victim.

Suspect Milton Chavez, male Hispanic 25 years-old, was arrested for trespassing. Homicide detectives are continuing their investigation into the death of the victim.

NARRATIVE:
Los Angeles County Sheriff's Homicide detectives are responding to the 1800 block of Garvey Avenue, Alhambra, to assist Alhambra Police Department personnel investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of a female adult.
 
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.                                                        
 
There is no additional information available at this time and the investigation is on-going.
