Press Release for Hit and Run Injury Accident

On February 14, 2017, at 3:26 am, Torrance Police Officers responded to the report of a man down in the area of Hawthorne Boulevard and Del Amo Boulevard.

 

On arrival, officers discovered a severely injured pedestrian in the roadway who appeared to have been struck by a vehicle travelling southbound on Hawthorne Boulevard. The initial investigation indicates that an unknown type vehicle was traveling southbound on Hawthorne Boulevard when it collided with a pedestrian who was outside of a crosswalk in the 20100 block of Hawthorne Boulevard. The Pedestrian, a 51 year-old male was treated by Torrance Fire Department personnel at the scene and transported to a local hospital where he is listed in critical condition. The name of the injured pedestrian is being withheld pending the notification of family members.

 

Evidence at the scene has investigators believing that an unknown model vehicle, possibly dark gray in color may have been involved. Police investigators believe the vehicle will likely have front end or windshield damage.

 

The southbound number three and four lanes of Hawthorne Boulevard were closed from Halison Street to Del Amo Boulevard for approximately five hours during the investigation.

 

This collision is being investigated by the Torrance Police Department’s Traffic Division under the command of Captain Martin Vukotic, Commander of the Special Operations Bureau.
