Arrest Made in Davis Mosque Vandalism

On January 22, 2017, just before 4:00 a.m. the Islamic Center of Davis, which is located on Russell Blvd in Davis, was vandalized by a female who smashed several large windows, vandalized two bicycles and then wrapped pork bacon around the door handles of the Mosque. The repair costs exceeded $7,000.

From the outset, this case was investigated as a hate crime by both the Davis Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), who was called in to assist local investigative efforts. Several of the criminal acts were caught on surveillance cameras set up near the Mosque. Soon after the crime was reported, and the surveillance footage was released, the Police Department received numerous tips regarding the vandalism. On February 1st, Davis Police detectives and FBI agents served a search warrant at a residence located on the 2500 block of Corona Dr. in Davis. Evidence was seized during the service of the search warrant.

Today, February 14, 2017, Davis Police officers and FBI agents served an arrest warrant for Lauren Kirk-Coehlo, a 30 year old Davis resident. Lauren Kirk-Coehlo was taken into custody, without incident, and booked at the Yolo County Jail on several felony vandalism charges. Bail has been set at $1,000,000. No other suspects are believed to be involved in this crime.

The case has been turned over to the Yolo County District Attorney for prosecution.
