The Tehachapi Police Department has received a report of a possible Email scam involving the sale of Girl Scout Cookies. 

A citizen received an Email from someone identifying themselves as a family member requesting the citizen send money to purchase Girl Scout Cookies.  It was determined this incident was a "Phishing* Email Scam" sent to the citizen in the hopes they would respond and send money.
 
If you receive such an email, please do not provide any personal identifying information or account information and notify the Tehachapi Police Communications Center. Also, please inform the FBI Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) by filing a complaint at www.ic3.gov
 

*Phishing (also called pharming or whaling) e-mails trick people into sending money or providing personal information such as usernames, passwords, credit card details, and Social Security numbers to unauthorized individuals who hijack their information and use it to commit identity theft.”
