The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Warning for our area starting late Wednesday, February 8th (roughly around midnight) through early Thursday, February 9th. The forecast is calling for anywhere between five (5) to twelve (12) inches of snow. The storm is likely to start as rain, change to a wintry mix then finally snow. The main bulk of the snow is predicated to fall between 5AM and 10AM. Winds will range from 10 MPH to 20 MPH with gusts up to 30 MPH. Visibility may only be a 1/4 mile or less at times. The Bridgewater Police Department and the Office Of Emergency Management continue to monitor the storm. As updates become available we will post them on our Emergency Alert page, Facebook, Twitter and if need be Nixle. We advise that you should expect a messy Thursday morning commute with the bulk of the snow falling between 5AM and 10AM. If you do not have to travel, we suggest you stay home. If you MUST travel, prepare yourself and leave plenty of time to get to and where your need to go. As stated in the past, there are several roads in town designated as “Snow Emergency Routes.” No vehicle shall be parked on any of these streets once the snow begins to accumulate on the roadway. To view these “Snow Emergency Routes,” click here. Vehicles are subject to ticket and tow at the owner’s expense.
Please do not call the police department about school closings and when your road will be plowed. To reach the Bridgewater-Raritan School District you can visit their website or call 908-685-2777.
To reach the Bridgewater Township Department of Public Works you may call 908-722-6300 ext 6000. You can assist the DPW in clearing the roads of snow by removing any vehicle from the roadway, regardless if that street is not a designated “Snow Emergency Route” and by also not snow-blowing or plowing snow back into the street.
With the potential of heavy wet snow and wind, if you lose power do not contact the police department unless an emergency exists (i.e.: a fire). Please contact your local power provider:
•PSE&G: 800-436-7734
•JCP&L: 888-544-4877
Do not approach a downed wire as it may still be live and can cause life-threatening injuries.
