Please read for information regarding two attempted ruse burglaries in Burr Ridge today between 3:30 and 4:00 PM
This is the Burr Ridge Police Department calling to notify residents of a community safety alert.
Today, between 3:30 and 4 PM, the police department received two reports of men attempting to enter residences under false pretenses. One instance was in the 8400 block of Heather drive, the second in the 8600 block of Wedgewood drive. The men are posing as utility workers and are telling residents they are working on water leaks and they have to get into the home to check the basement.
In the first incident, the offender is described as a Hispanic male, 35-40 years of age, wearing a dark hat and a grey hooded sweatshirt. He left the scene on foot. The second offender is described as a male Hispanic in his 30’s wearing a winter hat and grey coat. He was described as having a bad cough. He left the scene in a tan vehicle.
In these types of ruse entries, an offender will try to distract a person by getting into the home. Once inside, accomplices will come in after and take valuables from the home.
DO NOT let anyone into your house that you do not know! No Burr Ridge public works employee or any utility worker will attempt to enter your home under these circumstances.
If someone comes to your home saying they need to get in, please call 9-1-1 immediately. Lock your door, and try to get a description of the person and any vehicle.
Please contact the Burr Ridge Police Department if you have any information about these attempted crimes, or to report suspicious activity.
