*2ndUpdate*#LASD Homicide Assisting CHP with an Officer Involved Shooting, 3300 blk Pico Blvd, Santa Monica

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) Homicide Bureau detectives are continuing their investigation into the Officer Involved Shooting that occurred on Monday, February 6, 2017, at 12:20 a.m. on the 3300 block of Pico Boulevard, Santa Monica.

Investigators have identified the suspect as Gerardo Vasquez male Hispanic, 52 years-old.  Suspect Vasquez was wanted by Simi Valley Police Department for the attempt murder of his roommate that occurred on Friday, February 3, 2017.  He fled the scene after the stabbing and was considered “armed and dangerous.”

Additionally, Investigators have learned that after the officer-involved shooting occurred, the suspect fell onto his side, and yelled out an expletive at the officers and asked if that is all they had!  He then raised the large knife over his shoulder and was in the process of throwing the knife toward the officers when a second officer-involved shooting occurred.  The suspect managed to throw the knife which landed near where the officers were standing.

One of the officers also used a less-lethal shotgun to fire bean bag rounds at the suspect.

A large knife believed to belong to the suspect was recovered at the scene.

Based on the above, this appears to be a suicide by cop incident.

There is no further information at this time.
