Fatal traffic collision in the early morning hours of Feb 4th at Mohave Drive and Amethyst Rd, results in an arrest

LOCATION: Mojave Drive and Amethyst Road, Victorville
INVOLVED PARTY (1): Alexander Delapaz-Perez, 56-year-old resident of Victorville, driving a 2002 Hyundai sedan.
INVOLVED PARTY (2): Angel Barranco, 35-year-old resident of Adelanto, driving a 2015 Honda Accord
PASSENGER (1): Barbara Velasco, 23-year-old resident of Adelanto, passenger in a 2015 Honda Accord
PASSENGER (2): Monica Alarcon, 42-year-old resident of Adelanto, passenger in a 2015 Honda Accord
SUMMARY:
On Saturday, February 4, 2017, at approximately 1:45 am, a 2002 Hyundai sedan driving north on Amethyst Road, failed to stop at a posted stop sign and broadsided the driver’s side door of a 2015 Honda Accord that was traveling west on Mojave Drive. Both vehicles came to rest on the northwest side of Amethyst Road and Mojave Drive. Emergency services were summoned to the scene and immediately responded to render aid and conduct an investigation.
The driver of the Honda Accord was identified as Angel Barranco. Along with Angel, two passengers were in the car and were identified as Angel’s wife (Barbara Velasco) and Velasco’s mother (Monica Alarcon). Investigators were told by family that Velasco is approximately 7 months pregnant. Angel and Alarcon were transported to a local area hospital with major injuries. Angel later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased. Velasco was also transported a local area hospital with major injuries.
The driver of the Hyundai sedan was identified as Alexander Delapaz Perez. Delepaz Perez was transported to a local area hospital with minor injuries. After Delepaz Perez received medical treatment, he was taken into custody for Gross Vehicular Manslaughter While Intoxicated and Driving Under the Influence Causing Great Bodily Injury. Delepaz Perez has two prior convictions of Driving Under the Influence. Delepaz Perez was transported and booked into High Desert Detention Center.
This collision is currently under investigation by the Major Accident Investigation Team, at Victorville Police Station.
