01/24/17
Petty Theft - Huston Street / Carson Way
Person(s) unknown stole the victim’s truck tailgate from a white 2012 Toyota Tacoma. Total loss $1,500.00.

Burglary (Vehicle) - 25600 block Crockett Lane
Person(s) unknown punched the rear lock of the victim’s work van and stole numerous power and hand tools.  Total loss was $7,500.00

Grand Theft - 25600 block Pico Canyon Road
Person(s) unknown cut and stole a section of copper pipes. Total loss was $5,000.00.

Petty Theft - 25000 block Hollyhock Court

Person(s) unknown stole the victim’s tailgate from his tan, 2008 GMC Sierra. Total loss was $1,500.00.

01/26/17
Burglary (Vehicle) - 25700 The Old Road
Person(s) unknown smashed the driver’s side window of his vehicle and stole his backpack containing his laptop computer, video camera, portable hard drive, and ‘Pelican Case’ memory cards.  Total loss was $4,060.00.

 Burglary (Vehicle) - 25200 The Old Road
Person(s) unknown smashed the right rear window of the victim’s vehicle and stole a backpack containing various clothing items.  Total loss was $210.00.

Burglary (Vehicle) - 26100 Beecher Lane
Person(s) unknown pried the rear window of the victim’s SUV open and stole the third row seat.  Total loss was $2,000.00

Petty Theft (Shoplifting) - 25400 The Old Road
A male adult exited the store through an emergency exit with two, 40” Samsung televisions.  The suspect then met a second adult male outside the store and began loading the items into a silver Nissan Versa.  When confronted by the stole loss prevention officer the suspect cursed at him, then left the location.  The suspects were only able to load one of the items into the vehicle.

Burglary (Vehicle) - 25200 The Old Road
Person(s) unknown smashed the rear driver’s side window of the victim’s vehicle and stole her designer purse containing her cell phone, laptop computer, driver’s license, and her debit/credit cards.  Total loss was $2,160.00.

Grand Theft (Auto) - 26000 Potter Place
Person(s) unknown stole the victim’s vehicle which was parked in front of the victim’s home.  The victim stated that he is missing a set of keys for the vehicle.  The victim also stated that his driver’s license and debit/credit cards were in the vehicle’s glove box.  Person(s) unknown then attempted to use the victim’s credit card to open a cell phone account which was blocked by the victim’s bank.

Burglary (Vehicle) - 24200 block The Old Road
Person(s) unknown smashed the front passenger side window of the vehicle and stole her designer purse and wallet containing her driver’s license, credit/debit cards, and $80.00 in U.S. currency. Total loss was $2,000.00.

Petty Theft (Vehicle) - 25900 block Pope Place
Person(s) unknown entered the victim’s unlocked vehicle and stole his sunglasses and $50.00 in U.S. currency. Total loss was $250.00.

Petty Theft (Vehicle) - 25600 block Wild Avenue
Person(s) unknown entered the victim’s unlocked vehicle and stole $23.00 in U.S. currency.

Burglary (Vehicle) - 25200 The Old Road
Person(s) unknown smashed the rear passenger side window of the victim’s vehicle and stole her designer satchel containing various make-up and hair items, and her purse containing her driver’s license, credit/debit cards, and various jewelry.  Total loss was $400.00.
 
 Tip of the week: Avoiding Vehicle Burglaries
Most criminals who are looking to steal items from a vehicle are looking for the easy targets.  Most commonly known as a ‘smash and grab’, the burglars are looking for high value items that are in plain sight which can be easily and quickly taken after finding an unlocked door or smashing a window.  Imagine the costs and inconvenience of not only having to replace a smashed window, but also having to replace your driver’s license, credit/debit cards, laptop, cell phone, etc.  Here are some great tips to help prevent being a victim of a vehicle burglary.

1. ALWAYS lock your vehicle when left unattended.
2. Never leave your wallet or purse in your vehicle and in plain view when leaving your vehicle unattended.
3. If you use a portable GPS, remove it from the dash or windshield and place it in your glovebox or trunk when leaving your vehicle unattended.
4. Never leave any high value items (laptops, cell phones, jewelry, tools) inside your vehicle in plain view while unattended.  If you cannot carry those items with you, secure them in the trunk.
5. Use a sunscreen in your windshield, even at night or when parked in a parking structure.  This makes it much harder for a burglar to look into your vehicle.
6. Remember:  Vehicle burglars usually will not break into a vehicle with the intention of ‘searching’ it in hopes of finding something of value.  This takes too long and the burglar risks being seen.  If there is no easy opportunity that is readily available for a ‘smash and grab’ thief, they will more than likely pass your vehicle and look for a better target.
