Join us tomorrow for the Frankfort Police Department’s “Coffee With a Cop” at Home Depot, 20101 S. La Grange Rd, from 8:30 to 10:00 a.m. All are welcome to come out for some coffee and conversation with Chief John Burica and other members of the Frankfort Police Department. No agenda or speeches, just an opportunity to ask questions, voice concerns, and to get to know the officers that serve your community.

Beware of IRS telephone scams during this time of the year. Through this scam, a person impersonates an IRS employee and demand that you have overdue taxes. The scam artist may ask for personal information and payment. Just a reminder that the IRS will never:

• Call to demand immediate payment using a specific payment method such as a prepaid debit card, gift card or wire transfer. Generally, the IRS will first mail you a bill if you owe any taxes.
• Threaten to immediately bring in local police or other law-enforcement groups to have you arrested for not paying.
• Demand that you pay taxes without giving you the opportunity to question or appeal the amount they say you owe.
• Ask for credit or debit card numbers over the phone.

If you do receive a phone call like this just hang up. Remember that technology exists to “spoof” a caller id. “Spoofing” is a way for a scammer to make the caller id appear to be from a legitimate source even though it is not. So, even if the caller id says “IRS”, it does not necessarily mean that the phone call is from the IRS.
