Sonoma County Sheriff's Detectives make arrest in Graton stabbing case.

Sheriff’s Violent Crimes detectives arrested a 58-year-old Santa Rosa transient named Frederick Helmke at about 4:50 PM today for felony assault with a deadly weapon.

The arrest culminates from a call received last Friday, January 27th 2017 at about 10:00 PM. Deputies responded to a residence in the 4700 block of Guerneville Rd in Graton, CA on a report of a stabbing. Upon their arrival they found a 55-year-old man with a stab wound to his abdomen. The man lives at that home and was transported to a local hospital where he is expected to survive his injuries.

The argument allegedly started when the victim accused Helmke of stealing property from him. A physical fight ensued and Helmke ended up stabbing the suspect in the abdomen and then fled in his RV. Helmke is being booked into the Sonoma County Jail on one charge of Assault with a Deadly Weapon.
