On 1/28/2017 at approximately 4 a.m., a Southport Police officer was conducting a traffic stop in the 6100 block of Madison Avenue when his marked police vehicle was struck from behind. The police vehicle, which had its emergency lights activated, was then pushed forward from the force of the crash, striking the car that had been stopped. The striking vehicle, a Ford F150 truck, was being driven by 28 year old Natalie Clements. Ms. Clements was arrested on suspicion of operating while intoxicated after she refused to submit to a chemical test. There were no injuries reported. Further information will be released as it becomes available.
