Marijuana Team serves search warrant and shuts down Illegal Marijuana Dispensary in Bloomington

DATE/TIME: Thursday, January 26, 2017 / 1:35 p.m.

INCIDENT: Search Warrant – Illegal Marijuana Dispensary / Sales of Marijuana

LOCATION: 17921 Valley Boulevard, Bloomington

SUSPECT: Zachary Taylor Powers, age 27, of Corona

SUMMARY:
Investigators from the Sheriff’s Marijuana Enforcement Team served a search warrant at the location. Investigators found evidence that the illegal sales of marijuana and marijuana related goods was occurring at the location. Processed marijuana, concentrated cannabis, marijuana edibles, a firearm, and currency were seized from the location. Powers and a second person were identified as the owners/operators of the dispensary and were present at the location when investigators conducted their investigation. Powers was arrested for operating the illegal marijuana dispensary. The other owner/operator may face the same charges and will be required to appear in court at a later date.

The illegal marijuana dispensary was discovered several weeks ago by code enforcement officers and investigators. There have been several complaints made to officials. A preliminary check into the business showed there were no licenses or permits issued by county officials. The illegal business was being operated under the name of Grasshoppers Healing Group. Evidence gathered during the investigation suggests Powers and the second suspect were the owners of the illegal dispensary and were in charge of the operation. They were not in compliance with California medical marijuana laws and local ordinances. The County of San Bernardino has an ordinance prohibiting Commercial Cannabis Activity including medical marijuana dispensaries, mobile marijuana dispensaries, delivery services and outdoor cultivation of marijuana in the unincorporated areas of the county.

A case will also be investigated by the San Bernardino County Land Use Services - Code Enforcement Division and the tenants and/or property owner(s) may be issued a citation for the violations and ultimately fined for the violations if they go uncorrected. There were several violations noted during the investigation. This information will be followed up by the Code Enforcement Division.

Powers and the second owner/operator may face additional charges of Sales of Marijuana. Additionally, Powers may face charges of Delaying or Obstructing a Peace Officer. All of the criminal reports will be submitted to the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office at the conclusion of the criminal investigation. The District Attorney’s Office will review the case and decide on what, if any, criminal charges will be filed against the suspects. Powers was arrested and booked into the West Valley Detention Center.
