Crime Alert and Community Update Bulletin

When I mention “the unit block” of a street, this means the incident occurred at an address anywhere between 1 and 99 of the street.

Notable Cases

On Monday, 01-16-17 at 2:40 a.m., officers were dispatched to the unit block of Longview Drive on a report of a suspicious person sitting in a red pick-up truck. The vehicle was a stolen vehicle, and the person in the driver’s seat, a 26-year old transient, was arrested for vehicle theft, possession of stolen property and for driving with a suspended license. The female said she was looking for her boyfriend who lived at a nearby residence. The vehicle belonged to the suspect’s uncle who did not give her permission to drive the vehicle and reported it stolen.

On Monday, 01-16-17 at 4:40 a.m., officers saw an unknown subject holding a duffel bag walk through the “no trespassing” portion of the back parking lot of the police department. The subject was extremely nervous and kept saying someone was trying to kill him. Officers determined the 31-year old subject was under the influence of a controlled substance and arrested him for that as well as for a parole violation.

On Tuesday, 01-17-17 at 12:10 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 800 block of Campus Drive on a report of a subject calling from there stating he was being chased by gang members, was hiding inside the building and was fearful to come outside. The dispatchers asked the subject to come out to speak to the officers, but the subject refused, saying people were going to “get” him. Eventually the subject came outside and appeared to have objective symptoms of being under the influence of a central nervous stimulant. The subject admitted to snorting cocaine and gave the officers consent for them to search his person and backpack. An officer found two glass vials containing a white powdery substance in each of them, inside the backpack. The subject said his “friends” placed them in the backpack, and the subject refused to provide the names of his friends. The subject, a 22-year old Daly City resident, was arrested for being under the influence of and possession of a stimulant.

On Friday, 01-20-17 at 8:22 p.m., officers were dispatched to a residence on the 100 block of Huntington Drive on a report of a male subject who was reported to be mentally unstable by the reporting party. The reporting party alleged his nephew had a sword and club in his possession and was known to walk around the house carrying them. Officers arrived and found the suspect was in possession of metal knuckles and nunchakus. They arranged to have the subject, a 24-year old Daly City resident, taken to Peninsula hospital for psychiatric evaluation. The following day, the hospital released the subject, and officers came back and arrested him for possession of metal knuckles and nunchakus.

On Saturday, 01-21-17 at 8:8 p.m., Officer Clinkscales was on patrol in the Serramonte Shopping Center parking lot near Target and saw a suspicious parked vehicle containing three occupants. Officer Clinkscales contacted the occupants and smelled a strong odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle. One of the occupants of the vehicle was on probation for burglary, and the officer asked the subject if he could search the vehicle. In searching the vehicle, the officer found a gun on the rear passenger floorboard. Subsequently, one subject, a 21-year old San Francisco resident, was arrested for being in possession of a loaded firearm in a vehicle, prohibited person in possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm with a controlled substance, possession of burglary tools, and possession of a concealed firearm in a public place. A second subject, a 21-year old San Francisco resident, was arrested for possession of a loaded firearm in a vehicle and possession of a concealed firearm in a public place. A third subject, a 24-year old San Mateo resident, was arrested for the same charges as the second subject.

On Sunday, 01-22-17 at approximately 6:46 p.m., a 35-year old Daly City resident reported that as she was loading groceries into her vehicle in the parking lot of Manila Oriental Market at King Plaza, she was grabbed on the buttocks by an unknown suspect. Right after it occurred, the victim turned around and swung at the suspect but missed, and the suspect ran away from her. The victim said she began to yell and scream that she had been grabbed, but no one in the area did anything. The victim described the suspect as a darker skinned male, 5’7”, 160 lbs., with a little facial hair on his chin, wearing a light gray hoodie, dark gray sweatpants and white tennis shoes. This case has been suspended to detectives.

He said a male then passed him on the right and stopped in front of him. The male was speaking to the victim in English, however the victim could not understand him as he only spoke Spanish. The victim said the male then held something in his hand and removed a sheath from a fixed blade knife, threw the cover down on the sidewalk or street, held the knife down at waist level and pointed it at the victim. The victim said the suspect then pulled the hood on his sweater and moved him about 9 feet away from Mission Street and down to West Moltke Street. The male moved the knife to his right hand and checked the victim’s pockets and pulled out a $10 bill from the victim’s pocket. The victim said the male also unzipped his backpack but didn’t take anything. The victim said the male answered his cell phone and started talking to someone. The victim then said he ran away and could hear the suspect behind him while still on the phone. The victim said he hid behind a car and then ran to his home. Nextdoor.com

Nextdoor.com is a free private social networking website for your neighborhood. This private network ensures that only those who live in your neighborhood can join; users must go through a verification process. Neighbors ask each other for business recommendations; help in locating missing pets; discuss relevant local government issues; or connect for other reasons. It is very easy to sign up, and I like the fact that the site verifies users by addresses, and it won’t allow people to access to a neighborhood if they don’t actually live there. Please note: the City of Daly City and/or the Police Department cannot see what residents post—we are only allowed to post information. There is also a mobile application, or you can have it sent to your email. Give it a try! www.nextdoor.com
