Advisory

Traffic Advisory: CHP will reopen Niles Canyon (SR84) in both directions at approximately 3:00 pm.

CHP will reopen Niles Canyon at approximately 3:00 pm this afternoon in both directions.

The Canyon will close again on Tuesday after the morning commute, likely sometime between 9:00-10:00 am.  We are asking pedestrians and motorists to refrain from parking along the roadway and/or looking for the submerged vehicle.  Niles Canyon is a narrow roadway and it is not safe to park along the highway.

First responders have found what appears to be a vehicle in the water approximately 100-200 yards from the initial site of the collision.  Due to water conditions, we have not been able to confirm this is the missing vehicle, but due to the proximity of the collision location, we are hopeful.  On Tuesday, first responders will transition efforts to recovery and will attempt to remove the vehicle.

Media/press:  PIO's will be on scene at the Niles Staging area park (700 block of Old Canyon RD) on Tuesday between 9-9:30 am.  The lot will be available to the media beginning at 4:00 am.
