Storm Advisory - High Winds, Heavy Rain Sunday / Monday: Downed trees and power outages possible
South Brunswick Office of Emergency Management Director Chief Raymond Hayducka and Township Manager Bernard Hvozdovic are issuing the first advisory for a storm expected to impact our region Sunday night and all day Monday. The National Weather Service has issued a High Wind Watch and a Storm Watch for our community in advance of the storm.
Confidence is increasing in a significant coastal storm bringing heavy precipitation, strong winds, and coastal flooding to New Jersey from Sunday night into Tuesday.
What to Expect:
Strong Winds – Northeast winds 20 to 35 mph with gusts to 45 mph are possible from Sunday evening through Monday evening, with the strongest winds near the coast.
Heavy Rainfall – There is potential for periods of heavy rainfall from Sunday afternoon through Tuesday morning, with 1 to 3 inches possible across the area. Threat for minor urban and small stream flooding if high end rainfall amounts are realized.
Coastal Flooding – Minor flooding is probable, especially along the ocean, with potential for locally moderate coastal flooding if peak surge coincides with high tides.
Actions to Take:
Secure all loose items in and around your property.
Prepare for potential power outages. High winds may take down branches or trees onto power lines causing power outages.
