OSBI Special Agents Investigate Adair Co. Fatal Officer-Involved Shooting
Last night, the Adair County Sheriff’s Office requested OSBI special agents investigate a fatal officer-involved shooting in Watts. At approximately 7:30 p.m., a Watts police officer and an Adair County sheriff deputy responded to a domestic abuse call at 472567 E. 610 Road (Rural Route 1, Box 1338) in Watts. When police officials arrived, 40-year-old Stoney McJunkin exited his residence with a metal pipe in his hands. He reportedly raised the pipe in an aggressive manner and refused officers’ commands to put down the pipe. The Adair County deputy fired his handgun at McJunkin. Emergency medical personnel pronounced McJunkin dead at the scene. Numerous OSBI special agents arrived on scene to collect information and evidence. The investigation continues. McJunkin’s body was transported to the medical examiner’s office in Tulsa for an autopsy. Once agents finish the investigation, a full report will be delivered to the district attorney’s office. The district attorney will determine how to proceed with the case.
