Information From the Police Chief Concerning One of Our Officers

As police chief with the Southwestern Regional Police Department, I wanted to provide our community with some information regarding one of our police officers, Ofr. Lindenmuth, who was arrested in July of 2016 for domestic related issues. Physical contact that’s unwanted between two persons is always wrong. When an officer is arrested, please know that I understand it hurts every member of our department and our entire community; as it is obviously completely against what we believe in and what we stand for every day. When an officer is involved, it is very disheartening and disappointing to say the least.

We require very high standards for each employee as we have a community that deserves that and demands that each day. And they should. Unfortunately, officers are not immune from the problems that our entire society faces.

The officer has since entered a plea of no contest to the harassment charges in a York County Court; which is a summary offense (a summary offense is a grade below a misdemeanor crime). For this reason the officer will be reinstated this month after a considerable amount of counseling and review by this department.

In this case and given these exact set of circumstances, employment rules simply don’t allow for an employee to be terminated for this offense. Given that fact, we now need to make sure that the employee is again capable of performing at a very high level in a position that is very demanding. He did perform at an exceptional level for over 10 years and our hope and belief is that it will happen again.

In order to accomplish this goal, the officer has served a substantial amount of time off without pay. The officer has succeeded at completing intense counseling; much of it was voluntary on his part. He has successfully passed rigid testing by an outside entity to assure that he is again capable at succeeding in his position. The department will monitor his work.

Moving forward, I believe that the department has done everything within our means to insure that he will again succeed in his position. We appreciate our communities’ patience as we moved through this process. – Chief Gregory M. Bean
